California Residents Granted Extended Tax Deadline
Deadline extended to Oct. 17 for federal and state taxes
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the California Franchise Tax Board (FTB) have extended the federal and state tax filing deadline to Tuesday, October 17, 2023, for individuals and businesses in counties impacted by winter storms, flooding, and mudslides.
The extension applies to individual income tax returns, corporate tax returns, and other tax forms. Taxpayers who qualify for the extension will have until October 17 to file their returns and make any necessary payments.
The IRS extension applies to taxpayers in the following disaster-declared counties:
- Amador
- Butte
- Calaveras
- Colusa
- Contra Costa
- El Dorado
- Fresno
- Glenn
- Humboldt
- Lake
- Los Angeles
- Madera
- Marin
- Mariposa
- Mendocino
- Merced
- Monterey
- Napa
- Nevada
- Orange
- Placer
- Plumas
- Riverside
- Sacramento
- San Bernardino
- San Diego
- San Francisco
- San Joaquin
- San Luis Obispo
- San Mateo
- Santa Barbara
- Santa Clara
- Santa Cruz
- Shasta
- Sierra
- Siskiyou
- Solano
- Sonoma
- Stanislaus
- Sutter
- Tehama
- Trinity
- Tulare
- Tuolumne
- Ventura
- Yolo

Taxpayers who live in the disaster-declared counties but do not have a tax filing requirement must still file a return to claim any disaster-related tax relief.
